Doors open Friday, July 10: The Darkroom membership takes 50 new members, and the August preset drop — Lisbon Fog, six presets built from this summer's blue-hour archive — ships to members first. Last round filled in 31 hours. Doors close Sunday night or when the seats run out, whichever comes first.
Why everything here is dark
I spent my first five years as a photographer making bright, clean, forgettable images. Then a rained-out assignment in Porto forced me to shoot in fog, at night, under sodium lamps — and the photos from that ruined week outsold everything I had made before. I've been chasing that frame ever since, through 47 countries and a few hundred thousand RAWs. Everything on this page exists to shorten that road for you: the presets and guides are the systems I actually shoot and print with, not products invented for a store. My promise is simple — no recycled YouTube advice, real numbers from real files, and techniques that survive contact with print. If your photos already look like everyone else's, you're in the right place.
Results from the community
“I applied the Cinematic Edit System to a three-year-old trip archive and rebuilt my whole portfolio in a weekend. Two of those images landed me a hotel campaign in Marrakech.”
Priya Raman · Travel photographer, London
“Booked the 1:1 review before my first gallery submission. Nick reordered twelve images, cut three I loved, and the set got accepted. Worth every cent.”
Tomás Ferreira · Portrait photographer, Porto
“The course paid for itself with one client. I raised my editing rate from $40 to $150 per image because the results finally justified it.”
Dana Kowalski · Wedding and elopement photographer
Good questions
Will the presets work with my setup?+
Yes — everything ships as .xmp files compatible with Lightroom Classic, Lightroom CC, and the free Lightroom Mobile app (via sync or direct DNG import; instructions included). They work on RAW files from any camera brand, and reasonably well on phone RAWs. JPEGs will grade too, just with less latitude.
I shoot on an entry-level camera. Is this for me?+
Absolutely. Nothing in the guides or the course requires expensive gear — most of my best-selling prints were shot on a used body worth about $600. What matters is light, exposure discipline, and the grade, which is exactly what I teach. The only real requirement is shooting RAW.
What's your refund policy?+
Digital guides and the course carry a 14-day no-questions refund — email me and it's done. Memberships cancel anytime and you keep everything already downloaded. 1:1 calls can be rescheduled up to 24 hours ahead, but no-shows aren't refunded, because the slot is gone either way.
How is the course different from the guides?+
The guides are reference systems — dense, fast, complete on their own. The course is transformation: eight lessons with homework, thirteen practice RAWs, my scouting sheets, and monthly live critique. If you want the numbers, buy the guides. If you want your portfolio rebuilt in eight weeks, take the course.
