Custom character commissions reopened this week and four of the eight August slots are already gone — they usually sell out within the fortnight. Studio Club enrolment also closes Sunday 20 July and won't reopen until October. New here? Grab the free Pastel Starter Kit below first and see if my teaching style clicks for you.
Soft art, serious fundamentals
I believe dreamy, gentle art deserves the same rigorous craft that gritty concept art gets. Everything in this shop comes from nine years of daily painting and four years of teaching: the brushes are the exact ones I use on client work, the guides are the systems behind my commissions, and the course is the class I wish had existed when I was drawing wobbly characters on the bus to my old marketing job. My promise is simple — no filler, no 47-hour video dumps, just clear methods you can apply the same afternoon. If you make something with any of it, tag me. I look at every single piece, and I feature five student works every Friday.
What artists are saying
“The silhouette lesson alone fixed a problem I'd fought with for six years. Two months after finishing Character Alchemy I opened commissions and booked out three weeks in four days.”
Priya Raman · Freelance illustrator, Toronto
“I bought Pastel Color Magic on a whim and my very next post did about forty times my usual reach. People kept messaging to ask what changed. It was the palettes.”
Danny Whitfield · Hobbyist artist & primary school teacher
“Maya's portfolio review was brutal in the kindest possible way. I applied her three fixes, reapplied to the studio that rejected me in January, and started there in May.”
Sofia Marchetti · Junior character artist, mobile games
Questions, answered
Do I need an iPad and Procreate for your products?+
The brushes and course demos are built for Procreate on iPad, yes. But the Character Design Toolkit, Pastel Color Magic, and all the course principles are software-agnostic — students follow along in Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, and Krita all the time. If you're only here for brushes, you'll need Procreate.
How do commissions work?+
After checkout you'll fill in a short brief about your character. I send an initial sketch within five business days for your feedback, then a full colour pass. Two revision rounds are included, and most pieces are delivered within three weeks as a high-res PNG, with a layered file available on request.
What skill level are the courses for?+
Character Alchemy assumes you can draw simple shapes and have opened Procreate at least once — that's genuinely it. Total beginners should run through the free Pastel Starter Kit's seven-day plan first. Intermediate artists usually say lessons three to six are where the biggest breakthroughs happen.
Can I use your brushes and palettes in commercial work?+
Yes — everything you make with my brushes and palettes is fully yours, including client and commercial work, with no credit required. The only things you can't do are resell or redistribute the brush files themselves, or reuse the guide PDFs as content for your own courses.
